By Mommy to the Monsters on May 14th, 2012

Well I know many of you are probably wondering what happened to my adoptions plan to add a girl to my family.

Well to say they least, they have gotten sidetracked by all the current things going on our lives. BUT… I have not given up in the dream of adding more to our family. I am just waiting for a more ideal time…

Legoland Florida Homeschool Field Trip

0

By Mommy to the Monsters on May 13th, 2012

So as I promised in my Homeschool Support Group Post, I would tell you all about our trip to Legoland. We went to Legoland Florida on May 4, 2012  with the Homeschool Fellowship at my church. and I paid a total of $44 for all 3 of us to go and that included parking. If I had gone without the homeschool fellowship, it would have paid over $200 )

Legoland is an awesome place for younger children, but I’d have to venture to say that most people over the age of 12, probably won’t get as much as enjoyment out of it as the little kids.  But I think that may change as they get more years under their belt and have more time to develop the park.

Homeschool Support Group

In an effort to not be such a hermit, plus all the never – ending talk about home school socialization, we joined the Home school Fellowship at my church. I am so glad that I did1It is awesome to be around like minded  people and besides that: Read More

Library Days

By Mommy to the Monsters on May 6th, 2012

B & D Library Day

One thing I have recently added to our home school schedule is Library Days – Our first one was March 29, 2012.  We go every week to week and a half and I let the boys pick out 3 books they would like to read (or have read to them, if it is too difficult for them to read). I also let them  pick out 3 videos to watch during the week.

Our local library is awesome, because:

Ninjas and Biker Dudes: B’s Homeschooling Journey – Entry 1

0

By Mommy to the Monsters on Mar 27th, 2012

This is the first entry to B’s Homeschooling Journal (a portfolio of sorts, but not really.) As I mentioned in a previous post, I wanted to keep a personal record of what they were doing on our homeschooling journey.  I will not be doing this everyday. Not sure how often yet, but we will see…

None of our lesson for today was planned, it just happened on it’s own and it went really great. This is how I envisioned homeschooling being. Not the “School at Home” nightmare it has been for the last 4 months. The best part is my kids didn’t even realize that they were doing “school lessons,” because I incorporated the learning in a “matter of fact” kind of way…..Now everyday may not be this informal, but I can see a lot of them being like this….

I decided to do two different journals for each of my sons, as they may not necessarily be doing the same thing as the other everyday.  Some of the info may be duplicated, so please bear with me, as these will also serve as a Portfolio of sorts…. But anyhoo…Here goes..Entry 1 of B’s Homeschool Journal Read More

Maps, Money, and Biker Dudes: D’s Homeschooling Journey – Entry 1

By Mommy to the Monsters on Mar 27th, 2012

Well here is the first entry in D’s Homeschooling Journal (a portfolio of sorts, but not really.) As I mentioned in a previous post, I wanted to keep a personal record of what they were doing on our homeschooling journey. So here is day 1, of D’s journal. It’s obviously not the first day of homeschooling, but the first day in our online journal, after deciding to withdraw them from virtual school.

None of our lessons were planned today, it just happened on it’s own and it went really great. This is how I envisioned homeschooling being. Not the “School at Home” nightmare it has been for the last 4 months. he best part is my kids didn’t even realize that they were doing “school lessons,” because I incorporated the learning in a “matter of fact” kind of way…..Now everyday may not be this informal, but I can see a lot of them being like this….
